Being Recreated
Jesus wants to take us out of the gutter and bring us to a fulfilled life. Many Christians however never leave that gutter, through no fault of their own they are left with no training, no nurture and no development. Here are materials for developing Christians in their discipleship.
How can we be changed into the image of the invisible God? Jesus does not demand we try harder, He calls on us to be recreated from the inside out. We learn the hard way that change does not come through trying to control ourselves. With intense effort such control can last a short time, but we become distracted and situations arise where we find ourselves trapped on a road ending in failure. Being recreated is an act of God performed through His grace. This is not effortless, rather He works with me through a process so I am recreated into His image.
The process God uses brings together many elements. Key ones are His Word, His Spirit and prayer all in the context of our interaction with others in love. In His Word He shows me what is good and true teaching me His ways. If I don't understand Him and His truth then any change is a temporary gloss. In prayer I invite Him to work in me and give me the resources for this recreating to happen. Through prayer I interact with Him in life's challenges, so transforming situations which would otherwise bring my demise into proving grounds where His grace triumphs. All this happens in the context of relationships. As I seek to show His love my inability and my desperate need for God are exposed. He sends help through His Spirit who leads me through this process by faith, directing me into the specifics of His will and giving the grace for the actual recreating to happen.
