Introduction
It is a great comfort to discover that God knows us, The Lord knows our situation, and He is willing to act to look after us. We can be so caught up with our problems that we have no space in our lives for God, but He is able to rescue us from every issue that we struggle with. The extent of our Father’s knowledge of us is far greater than we give Him credit for. The Lord knows everything, and still loves us and accepts us for who we are though Jesus, even knowing the full extent of what that means.
Bible Zone
The zone below looks at two passages.
Love without Fear
Before our engagement I shared with my fiance a terrible secret. I was sure, she would reject me. Instead she accepted me. Love developed to trust as fear was dealt with.
Fear lurks in us that if people knew who we really are, they would reject us. These fears are extended to God. God knows us more than we know ourselves yet in this knowledge He loves us, cares for us, and looks after every detail of our lives. The problem with fear is that it is incompatible with love. Look at what John wrote in 1 John 4
1 John 4:16-18 God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them.17 And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.
18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
Let us look at a Psalm of David. See how he understood God’s knowledge of his situation. Psalm 139 -
Read through and notice all that is known by God.
Psalm 139 1 O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.
2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.
3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.
4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.
5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!
7 I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence!
8 If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave,* you are there.
9 If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans,
10 even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me.
11 I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night—
12 but even in darkness I cannot hide from you.To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you.
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.
Amazing! God knows us yet loves and accepts us. He works with us to bring us to a better place. As we know Him in security then we become drawn to His gracious character and desire to be like Him. We all want to be like our heroes! He does not force Himself on us, He is patient with us waiting for us to desire to be like Him, waiting for the time we will ask Him to recreate us in His image.
